Cosmetology

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Cosmetology is a three-year course, that consists of 1250 required hours, and is offered to both female and male students.

First year students are introduced to the basic skills such as shampooing, scalp treatments, manicuring, hair styling, cold waving, and hair cutting. Safety, sterilization, and sanitation are stressed as important parts of each job.

Second year students are required to place more emphasis on progress toward perfection of basic skills, including on-the-job training that is expected in beauty salons. Removal of superfluous hair, termal weaving and curling, chemical hair relaxing, skin care and make-up are added to the second year curriculum.

During the third year, students have an intensive review of all skills and theory plus coloring, hair lightening electricity, chemistry, shop management, and the State Board of Cosmetology laws. Students are taught the importance of expectations to obtain a job. When students have completed the course, they are qualified to take the state board examination required for a state license in cosmetology.
